Since all my WIPs are short and don’t reach page 77, I took a passage from a novel I haven’t edited yet. (Not my fault. My editor is MIA) Black Rayne Scarlet Moon, the second installment of the Dragon Queen series.

“It is as you said, that uncontrolled dark force you harbor. Yeah, in time you’ll dominate that part of you, but time is a luxury we don’t have right now. Demetri and I knew they were gonna be pissed before we did this. But hey, what the fuck?” Maurisio threw his hands up as if he couldn’t give care in the world. “I’ve never been the type to follow rules, so why start now?”
Rayne looked from one brother to the other. The sting of uneasiness rose in the pit of her stomach. Maybe they shouldn’t have done the ritual.

They rode all night and Jess wouldn’t stop. Instead of going back to the plateau, he took them further above that and by sunrise, the horses were struggling with the steep path. Amazed at his resilience yet again, Lacey couldn’t believe how he could just go on and on after receiving a blow to the head like that.
She lost track of time while keeping him and the horses ahead of her in sight. Exhaustion crept up on her and she kept nodding off. Her horse lunged up and she grabbed the reins.
“Watch out, Lace!” Jess yelled back at her.
