With his hands shoved in his pockets, Toshiro walked along the side of the building, passed the parking lot and people loitering. He made it to the rear, where there was an alleyway, probably no more than ten feet wide. A brick wall, almost as tall as the building, blocked off the alleyway. It was recessed about two feet from the building’s edge, which made an indention, perfect for climbing.
He brushed his fingers across a few grooves etched into the wall. Stepping back, he examined its height.
Just under the roof’s overhang, a camera pointed away from the barrier. It was most likely aimed at the club’s rear entrance. He stood there a few seconds, listening for voices on the other side. The clamor and laughter from people leaving and entering the club made it difficult to decipher the sounds.
He had to make a choice. Either stand here and wait for the opportune moment to make his move, which would leave him open to be caught by security. Or, take a gamble and scale the wall now and possibly face the repercussions on the other side.
“Gamble it is,” he muttered in Japanese.
