“When we get outta this zombie-demon hell, we’re gonna revisit some things. I need to know your purpose in all of this. I wanna know what kinda game Priestess Lysithra is playing. And I wanna know about the secrets you’re keeping from me. Trust is important. If we do this bonding thing, you gotta be straightforward with me. Got it?”
“Yeah…sure,” replied a much deeper voice.
With her breath caught in her throat, Havoc jerked her head to the right.
A freckle-faced dude with flushed cheeks sat beside her, clutching her hand. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed hard. “So uhm yeah, this is weird for me too.”
Havoc shot to her feet, glaring down at the young man. It wasn’t lost on her that he bore a striking resemblance to Maddie, but something was off.
Slowly standing, he held his hands out. “Okay, let me expla—”
Havoc fisted him by the collar of his hoodie and flung him onto the bed. He gaped up at her as she pounced on him and grabbed his face. She yanked his head to the side and aggressively pulled at his hoodie’s neckline.
“Whoa-whoa, chill! I’m not bitten…” he muffled out. “I’m not infected.”
Ignoring him, she lifted his hoodie, searching his torso for any kind of discoloration or an impending transformation.
He flailed about and erupted into a fit of uncontrollable laughter. “Wait, not there.” Wiggling up the bed, he frantically pushed at her hands. “Don’t touch there! I’m ticklish, sis. Aw shit, you’re gonna make me fart. Stop that!”
Knee to his chest, she pinned him down and cocked her fist back. Pink flames burst out around her hand. “Where the fuck did you come from? And where’s Maddie? Talk fast.”
